It’s been so long since I published one of these you probably forgot you subscribed to my newsletter. On the bright side a lot of things happened in my shop over the last year so let me catch you up.

I have been experimenting with this process to add a gorgeous element to these peek-a-boo clocks. The gravitas imparted by the process and finished result (called yakisugi) are the blackest I have ever gotten wood before.  Typically, using a dye or stain leaves a purple undertone to the black so it is not a true black.  These are a deep rich black, that adds one more level of detail to the patinated copper clock designs.

After spending a bunch of time in the construction industry working around heavy machinery and power tools, it is a pretty safe bet I could be losing some of my hearing.
 

This month’s featured project is a project I finished this summer: a bank of built-in cabinets with live-edge slabs and floating shelves for a client’s home office in Evergreen, Colorado.

This table was fun to design since it is half an oval. To achieve the oval shape, each segment had to be cut at a different length and angle from the center of the arch to the back edge of the table.
