September 2019 Newsletter

WOW! It’s already September, and we haven’t sent out a newsletter since April, but don’t worry, we have been busy. So thank you for being patient and subscribing to my occasionally random newsletter about the goings-on in my studio.

Featured Creation
The Semi Elliptical Table

Half an oval table

This table was a fun one to design since it is half an oval. From the center of the arch to the back edge of the table, each segment had to be cut at a different length and angle to achieve the oval shape.

The top was silver leafed, and a patina was added with sulfur potash to add some contrasting colors and wild movement in the top.

The legs are tapered with an oval shape from top to foot, which I achieved using a spokeshave to feather in the final form by hand.

You can see more pictures and get more details on my website -> Custom Semi Elliptical Table

You can also see it in person at the Hunter Wolff Gallery in Old Colorado City starting September 6th, I will be there showing several pieces for the Friday Art Walk. Come by and say, Hi.

I’m still accepting commissions for this coming fall/winter. if you would like to commision a piece of custom furniture or art. Just head over to my website for details.

I will not have any furniture in this show, but it will feature my scrap wood projects. I gather up all the scrap wood left over from my furniture projects and build cribbage boards, cutting boards, boxes, and whatever else I can think of. It has been a great way to clean up the shop and raise some money to fund other art projects, as well as help send a young mind to collage.

I’m the owner of Benham Design Concepts, a mixed media art studio where I design and build custom furniture and other works of art using wood, glass, stone, and various metals.
In this blog, I talk about the art I create, my journey, and the things I learn along the way.
